So Great a Salvation

Salvation  series, part 1     Feb. 7, 2016     Frank W.R. Benoit

Introduction – The author of the epistle to the Hebrews told his readers to pay close attention to what they had heard and to not “neglect so great a salvation”.  Why did he call salvation “so great”? What is “so great” about it? Obviously it is great because it saves the lost and condemned. But there are other reasons too why it is “so great” and that is what we will consider in this series.

  1. Salvation is great because it is all of GOD .
    A. Ps. 32:1-2 – blessing from forgiveness that the Lord gives.
    B. Ps. 98:1-3 – the Lord made His salvation known, the salvation of our God
    C. Isa. 53:4-6 – God smote His Servant and the Lord put our iniquity on Him
    D. Eph. 2:4-6 – God, rich in mercy, by grace saved us in Christ
    E. Titus 3:4-8 – the kindness of God saved us through Jesus Christ our Savior
    F. 1 Pet. 1:3-5 – God the Father, according to His mercy caused us to be born again to a living hope, an inheritance, and protected by God for salvation
    G. Rev. 19:1 – salvation belongs to God
  2. Salvation is great because it is a FREE GIFT .
    A. John 4:10 – the gift of God is to give “living water”/salvation
    B. Rom. 3: 23-24 – God’s justification is a gift by His grace
    C. Rom. 6:23 – the free gift of God is salvation in Christ Jesus
    D. Eph. 2:8-9 – by grace one is saved, it is the gift of God, not by works
  3. Salvation is great because it is offered to ALL PEOPLE .
    A. Ps. 98:1-3 and 117 – the Lord has made known His salvation to the ends of the earth, to all nations, to all peoples
    B. Matt. 11:28 – come to Jesus all who are weary and heavy laden
    C. John 3:14-16 – whoever believes in Christ can have eternal life
    D. Acts. 10:34-35 – God doesn’t show partiality but accepts those who reverently turn to Him from any nation
    E. Rom. 1:16 – the gospel is the power of salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew and to the Gentiles
    F. Rom. 3:22-23 – salvation is through faith in Christ for all who believe, for there is no distinction, for all have sinned

Conclusion – We still have four more things to see about the greatness of salvation, and we’ll see those in the next message. It will be great!
