So great a salvationSeries, part 2      Feb. 14, 2016      Frank W.R. Benoit

Introduction – The author of the epistle to the Hebrews told his readers to pay “much closer attention to” and not “neglect so great a salvation”. Why is salvation “so great”? We’re looking at 7 key reasons of why it is “so great”.

  1. Salvation is great because it solves the Sin Problem.
    A. Lk. 19:9-10; 1 Tim. 1:15– Jesus came to seek & save the lost, to save sinners
    B. Rom.4:5, 5:6-8 and 6:22-23 – it is for the ungodly, sinners and frees from sin
    C. 1 Cor. 6:9-11 – God can change any and every sin of the unrighteous.
    D. Col. 1:13-14 – God delivered believers from the domain of darkness, transferred them to His Son’s kingdom and paid for forgiveness of sins.
    E. Heb. 9:24-28 and 10:10-18 – Christ came to put away sin by His one sacrifice for sin for all time, so that there is no longer any offering for sin.
  2. Salvation is great because it is received by Faith Alone.
    A. John 3:14-16 – whoever believes (has faith) in Jesus Christ has eternal life
    B. Acts. 16:31 – believing (faith) in the Lord Jesus Christ brings salvation
    C. Rom. 1:16-17, 3:22 and 4:5 –salvation is through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe, the righteous lives by faith, his faith is counted as righteousness
    D. Eph.2:8-10 – one is saved by grace through faith, not by works but for works
    E. 1 Pet. 1:8-9 – the outcome of faith is the salvation of one’s soul
    F. 1 John 5:13 – believing (faith) leads to knowing that one has eternal life
  3. Salvation is great because it is Complete.
    A. John 19:30 – Christ’s work finished and canceled out the entire debt of sin.
    B. Rom. 5:1, 9, 6:22; 1 Cor. 6:9-11; 2 Cor. 5:18 – full justification, salvation from God’s wrath, reconciliation and sanctification are benefits of salvation
    C. Eph. 1:7 and Col. 1:14 – complete redemption and forgiveness of sins
  4. Salvation is great because it cannot be Lost.
    A. John 5:24, 10:27-30 & 14:16-17 – gives eternal life not judgment, will never perish/be snatched from Christ & the Father, will have the Holy Spirit forever
    B. Rom.5:1,9 and 8:31-39–God justified once for all, nothing can separate from
    C. Heb. 5:9 and 7:25 – Jesus is the source of eternal salvation and able to save forever those who come to God through Him.
    D. 1 Pet. 1:3-5 – God made us born again to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and won’t fade away, and protected by His power for salvation

Conclusion – These 7 reasons show us why salvation is “so great”!
