Spiritual Gifts Applied (Love Part 5)
1st Corinthians 12:31 …eagerly desire the greater gifts. And now I will show you the most excellent way.
Love’s Demeanor Has Manners
1st Corinthians 13:5-6 love…is not rude…(it behaves decently, i.e. with manners)
1st Timothy 3:14-15 …I am writing you these instructions so that, if I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.
2nd Corinthians 1:12 …this is our boast: Our conscience testifies that we have conducted ourselves in the world
Love Looks Outward…
1st Corinthians 13:5 …it is not self-seeking…
Romans 2:7-11 To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, He will give eternal life. But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger…
1 Cor 10:24 Nobody should seek his own good, but the good of others.
Love Looks Beyond Provocation
1st Corinthians 13:5 …it is not easily angered…
Mark 15:29-32 Those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads and saying, “So! You who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days, come down from the cross and save yourself!” In the same way the chief priests and the teachers of the law mocked him among themselves. “He saved others,” they said, “but he can’t save himself! Let this Christ, this King of Israel, come down now from the cross, that we may see and believe.” Those crucified with him also heaped insults on him.
Luke 23:34 Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”
Love Keeps Short Accounts
1st Corinthians 13:5 It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
2nd Corinthians 5:19 God was reconciling the world to Himself in Christ, (While He was on the Cross) not counting men’s sins against them. He has committed to us this message of reconciliation.
Love Disdains Depravity & Reveres Rightness
1st Corinthians 13:6-7 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
Jn 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me
Truth Is Found Only In God’s Revelations
John 1:14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
John 17:17 Sanctify them by the truth; Your Word is Truth.
Psalm 19:1-3 The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard.
The Church Is To Hold The Truth In Trust
1 Timothy 3:14-15 These things write I unto thee, hoping to come unto thee shortly: But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the Living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.
Truth Determines Your Destiny
2nd Thessalonians 2:9-12 The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the work of Satan displayed in all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders, and in every sort of evil that deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness.
