What We SAY we’ll Do Isn’t WHAT we Do
John 13:36-38 Simon Peter said, Lord, whither goest Thou? Jesus answered him, Whither I go, thou canst not follow me now; but thou shalt follow Me afterwards. Peter said unto Him, Lord, why cannot I follow Thee now? I will lay down my life for Thy sake. Jesus answered him, Wilt thou lay down thy life for My sake? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, The cock shall not crow, till thou hast denied Me thrice.
Faithfulness To Jesus Is Not A Competition
Matthew 26:31-25 Jesus told them, “This very night you will all fall away on account of me, for it is written: “ ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’ But after I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee.” Peter replied, “Even if all fall away on account of you, I never will.” “Truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “this very night, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times.” But Peter declared, “Even if I have to die with you, I will never disown you.” And all the other disciples said the same.
Our Claim To Loving Him Is Demonstrated By How We Love Others
John 21:15-16 Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love (Agapoao) Me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” he said, “You know that I love (Phileo) You.” Jesus said, “Feed My lambs.” Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love (Agapao) Me?” He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love (phileo) You.” Jesus said, “Take care of My sheep.”
To Love The Lord Is To Love His Flock
John 21:17 The third time He said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love (Agapao) Me?” Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love Me?” He said, “Lord, You know all things; You know that I love (Agapao) You!” Jesus said, “Feed My sheep.
Love Is THE STANDARD for Ministry
John 10:11 I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
John 10:14-17 I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me— just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep. I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd. The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life—only to take it up again.
Ministry Is Caring For People
1st Peter 5:1-4 To the elders among you, I appeal as a fellow elder and a witness of Christ’s sufferings who also will share in the glory to be revealed: Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, watching over them—not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not pursuing dishonest gain, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock. And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.
