The Priesthood of Believers Pt. 8
Hebrews 4:3 Now we who have believed enter that rest…

Human Works Cannot Compare to God’s Works
Hebrews 4:9-10  There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from his own work, just as God did from his.

Human Works Cannot Save
Galatians 3:1-3  You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? Before your very eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified. I would like to learn just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit by observing the law, or by believing what you heard? Are you so foolish? After beginning with the Spirit, are you now trying to attain your goal by human effort?

God’s Word Is A Watershed Concerning Belief
Hebrews 4:11-13  Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following their example of disobedience. For the Word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of Him to Whom we must give account.

Jesus Is Interceding for Us NOW
Hebrews 4:14  Therefore, since we have a great high priest Who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess.

The Priesthood of Jesus is Totally Empathetic
Hebrews 4:15  For we do not have a high priest Who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one Who has been tempted in every way, just as we are–yet was without sin.

Jesus’ Humanity/Priesthood In Heaven NOW Gives Us Total Assurance to Approach Him!
Hebrews 4:16  Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

Good Priests Can Help Sinners Because They Are!
Hebrews 5:1-3  Every high priest is selected from among men and is appointed to represent them in matters related to God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins.  He is able to deal gently with those who are ignorant and are going astray, since he himself is subject to weakness. This is why he has to offer sacrifices for his own sins, as well as for the sins of the people.

God Appoints The Priesthood
Hebrews 5:4-6  No one takes this honor upon himself; he must be called by God, just as Aaron was.  So Christ also did not take upon himself the glory of becoming a high priest. But God said to him, “You are my Son; today I have become your Father.  And he says in another place, “You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.”

In Becoming Totally Human Christ Can Totally Identify With The Suffering of This World
Hebrews 5:7-10  During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. Although he was a son, he learned obedience from what he suffered and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him and was designated by God to be high priest in the order of Melchizedek.

Comprehension Of Jesus Priesthood Is Crucial
Hebrews 5:11-14  We have much to say about this, but it is hard to explain because you are slow to learn. In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.
