The Word of Life – Pt 4
1st John 1:1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched–this we proclaim concerning the Word of life!
The Word of Life Identifies Us
1st John 3:1 How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know Him.
John 15:18-19 & 21 If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated Me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you…they will treat you this way because of My Name, for they do not know the One who sent Me.
The End Result of Our Faith Is Christlikeness
1st John 3:2 Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when He appears, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.
Romans 8:29 …for whom He foreknew, He predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.
Colossians 3:4 When Christ, Who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.
2nd Corinthians 3:4 …we with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into His likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, Who is the Spirit.
The Hope of Believing Faith Is Cleansing
1 John 3:3-6 Everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure. Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness. But you know that He appeared so that He might take away our sins. And in Him is no sin. No one who lives in Him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen Him or known Him.
The Essence of Sin is Disbelief & Rebellion
1 John 3:7-8 Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. He who does what is right is righteous, just as He is righteous. He who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.
Genesis 3:1-5 The serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’” “You will not surely die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
John 6:28-29 So they asked Him, “What can we do in order to do what God wants us to do?” Jesus answered, “What God wants you to do is to believe…IN THE ONE HE HAS SENT!”
New Birth Gives Us New Nature
1st John 3:9 No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God.
John 3:3 Jesus answered, “I am telling you the truth: no one can see the Kingdom of God without being born again.”
Two Families Two Traits
1st John 3:10 This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right (place faith in Jesus as Savior) is not a child of God; nor is anyone who does not love his brother. (Because this indicates an unforgiving spirit which is CANNOT be from God)
