Communion Devotional

Communion Remembers The Sacrifice Of The Lord
1 Corinthians 11:23-25  I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night He was betrayed, took bread and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” In the same way, after supper He took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”

To Remember Is To Keep What He Did In The Forefront Of Our Thinking
Deuteronomy 6:6-9  …these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: Thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, when thou walkest by the way and when thou liest down and when thou risest up. Thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. Thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house and on thy gates.

Keep Him Foremost And Keep Yourself In Perspective
Matthew 23:1-12  ….all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries and enlarge the borders of their garments, they love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues, And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi. But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren. And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father in Heaven…

Communion Proclaims The Gospel
1 Corinthians 11:26  For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.

Communion Is A Personal Responsibility
1 Corinthians 11:27  Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord.

Communion Is Introspective
1 Corinthians 11:28-29  A man ought to examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself.

Communion Is Consequential
1 Corinthians 11:30  That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep.

Communion Is The Basis For Judgement
1 Corinthians 11:31-32  But if we judged ourselves, we would not come under judgment. When we are judged by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be condemned with the world.

Communion Is Corporate
1 Corinthians 11:33-34  So then, my brothers, when you come together to eat, wait for each other. If anyone is hungry, he should eat at home, so that when you meet together it may not result in judgment. And when I come I will give further directions.
