“One who came from all eternity” (Micah 5:2)
Christmas series – Frank W.R. Benoit

IntroductionMicah ministered at the same time as the prophet Isaiah, about 740-680 B.C., so his prophecy concerning the birthplace of the Messiah comes about 700 years before the birth of Christ. The passage was so well-known in Israel as a messianic prophecy that when the Magi-Wise men appeared in Jerusalem looking for Christ at His birth, the religious leaders and experts all knew exactly what to tell King Herod (Matt. 2:3-6).

Micah 5:2 not only discusses the birthplace of the Messiah, but other important details about Jesus Christ and His Person. There are three main things that stand out in the prophecy that we need to understand and that every year at Christmas we should remember why they are so important:

1. The PLACE of the Messiah’s birth or WHERE He would be born.

2. The PERSON that Messiah will be or WHO He would be.

3. The PROVENANCE of the Messiah or WHAT His origin is.

What we learn from Micah 5:2.

1. God’s Word is true and always comes true.

2. The real Messiah can only be born in Bethlehem.

3. The real Messiah is fully the eternal God become incarnate.

4. Jesus is the true Messiah and God-Man, “Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace”

ConclusionAnd all of this happened on a starry night in Bethlehem about a quarter century and 2,000 years ago! That is when One came from all eternity to bring salvation to Adam’s fallen race.
