The Sabbath Rest
Genesis 2:2-3
God Established A Day Of Rest
Genesis 2:2-3 By the seventh day God had finished the work He had been doing; so on the seventh day He rested from all His work. God blessed the seventh day & made it holy, because on it He rested from all the work of creating that He had done.
God Put Rest Into Law
Deuteronomy 5:13-15 Six days you shall labor & do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your ox, your donkey or any of your animals, nor the alien within your gates, so that your manservant & maidservant may rest, as you do. Remember that you were slaves in Egypt & that the LORD your God brought you out of there with a mighty hand & an outstretched arm. Therefore the LORD your God has commanded you to observe the Sabbath day.
Failure To Rest Resulted In Death
Exodus 35:2 Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day there shall be to you an holy day, a sabbath of rest to the LORD: whosoever doeth work therein shall be put to death.
Even The Land Was To Rest
Leviticus 25:1-5 The LORD said to Moses on Mount Sinai, “Speak to the Israelites & say to them: ‘When you enter the land I am going to give you, the land itself must observe a sabbath to the LORD. For six years sow your fields, and for six years prune your vineyards & gather their crops. But in the seventh year the land is to have a sabbath of rest, a sabbath to the LORD. Do not sow your fields or prune your vineyards. Do not reap what grows of itself or harvest the grapes of your untended vines. The land is to have a year of rest.
Sabbath Was Made For Us To Rest
Mark 2:23-28 One Sabbath as Jesus passed through the grainfields, His disciples began to pick some heads of grain. The Pharisees said to Him, “Look, why are they doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath?” He answered, “Have you never read what David did when he & his companions were hungry & in need? In the days of Abiathar the high priest, he entered the house of God & ate the consecrated bread, which is lawful only for priests to eat. He also gave some to his companions.” Then He said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath!”
The Lord Invited The Disciples To Rest
Mark 6:30-32 The apostles gathered around Jesus & reported to Him all they had done & taught. Because so many people were coming & going that they did not even have a chance to eat, He said to them, “Come with Me by yourselves to a quiet place & get some rest.” So they went away by themselves in a boat to a solitary place.
To Come Into God’s Rest You Must Come To Christ
Matthew 11:28-30 Come unto Me, all ye that labor & are heavy laden, & I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek & lowly in heart: & ye shall find rest unto your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.
To Rest Is To Cease Striving To Attain Unto God By Human Efforts
Hebrews 4:9-10 There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from his own work, just as God did from His.
Galatians 2:16
Eternal Rest Is Found ONLY In Christ
Matthew 7:21-23 Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’
Eternal Rest Is Found ONLY In Christ
John 8:24 I told you that you would die in your sins, for unless you believe that I am he you will die in your sins.
John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Acts 4:12 …there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.
John 6:27-29 Labor not for the meat which perishes, but for that which endures unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for Him hath God the Father sealed. Then they asked Him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on Him Whom He hath sent.
