Living for God in a Pagan World-P2
Daniel Chapter One

Understand The Place And Time You Live In And How To Be Effective In It!
Daniel 1:3-5  Then the king ordered Ashpenaz, chief of his court officials, to bring in some of the Israelites from the royal family and the nobility– young men without any physical defect, handsome, showing aptitude for every kind of learning, well informed, quick to understand and qualified to serve in the king’s palace. He was to teach them the language and literature of the Babylonians… They were to be trained for three years and after that they were to enter the king’s service.

Learn How To Adapt To Cultural Changes In Your Times
Daniel 1:6-7  Among these were some from Judah: Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah. The chief official gave them new names: to Daniel, the name Belteshazzar; to Hananiah, Shadrach; to Mishael, Meshach; and to Azariah, Abednego.

John 1:42-43  Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon son of John. You will be called Cephas” (which, when translated, is Peter). The next day Jesus decided to leave for Galilee. Finding Philip, He said to him, “Follow Me.”

Philip – a proper name in Greece, most famously in classical history King Phillip of Macedonia, father of Alexander the Great.

Because of the Babylonian Exile Jewish people underwent a transition linguistically to Aramaic, Ancient Hebrew was the original language ot the Bible from Genesis to Jeremiah, after the Exile Aramaic, and Greek and eventually Latin became the languages of the common people…

Stay True To Personal Convictions Based In Biblical Truth
Daniel 1:8-10  But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine so he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way. Now God had caused the official to show favor and sympathy to Daniel, but the official told Daniel, “I am afraid of my lord the king, who has assigned your food and drink. Why should he see you looking worse than the other young men your age? The king would then have my head because of you!”

Leviticus 11:1-12  The LORD said to Moses and Aaron, “Say to the Israelites: ‘Of all the animals that live on land, these are the ones you may eat: You may eat any animal that has a split hoof completely divided and that chews the cud. There are some that only chew the cud or only have a split hoof, but you must not eat them. The camel, though it chews the cud, does not have a split hoof; it is ceremonially unclean for you. The coney, though it chews the cud, does not have a split hoof; it is unclean for you. The rabbit, though it chews the cud, does not have a split hoof; it is unclean for you.
…the pig, though it has a split hoof completely divided, does not chew the cud; is unclean for you. You must not eat its meat or touch their carcasses; they are unclean for you. Of all the creatures living in the water of the seas and the streams, you may eat any that have fins and scales. But all creatures in the seas or streams that do not have fins and scales–whether among all the swarming things or among all the other living creatures in the water–you are to detest…you must not eat their meat and you must detest their carcasses. Anything living in the water that does not have fins and scales is to be detestable to you.

Trust In The Ways Of God You Will Be Vindicated
Daniel 1:11-16  Daniel said to the guard whom the chief official had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah, “Please test your servants for ten days, give us vegetables to eat and water to drink. Then compare our appearance with that of the young men who eat the royal food. Then treat your servants in accordance with what you see.”

So, he agreed to this and tested them for ten days.  At the end of the ten days they looked healthier and better nourished than any of the young men who ate the royal food. So the guard took away their choice food and the wine they were to drink and gave them vegetables instead.

Through Trust And Faith In God’s Word; By Study And Hard Work; God Moves His People Into Places Of Influence
Daniel 1:17-21  To these four young men God gave knowledge and understanding of all kinds of literature and learning and Daniel could understand visions and dreams of all kinds. At the end of the time set by the king to bring them in, the chief official presented them to Nebuchadnezzar.

The king talked with them and he found none equal to Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah and so, they entered the king’s service. In every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king questioned them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters in his whole kingdom. Daniel remained there until the first year of King Cyrus.

Jeremiah 6:16-19  This is what the LORD says: “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it and you will find rest for your souls. But you said, ‘We will not walk in it.’  I appointed watchmen over you and said, ‘Listen to the sound of the trumpet!’ But you said, ‘We will not listen!’  Therefore hear, O nations; observe, O witnesses, what will happen to them. Hear, O earth: I am bringing disaster on this people, the fruit of their schemes, because they have not listened to MY Word and have rejected MY LAW!

Jeremiah 9:11-13  I will make Jerusalem a heap of ruins, a haunt of jackals; and I will lay waste the towns of Judah so no one can live there.”  What man is wise enough to understand this? Who has been instructed by the LORD and can explain it? Why has the land been ruined and laid waste like a desert that no one can cross?  The LORD said, “It is because they have forsaken my law, which I set before them; they have not obeyed me or followed my law…”

Jeremiah 23:25-29  I have heard what the prophets say who prophesy lies in MY Name. They say, ‘I had a dream! I had a dream!’  How long will this continue in the hearts of these lying prophets, who prophesy the delusions of their own minds?  They think the dreams they tell one another will make My people forget My name, just as their fathers forgot My Name through Baal worship. Let the prophet who has a dream tell his dream but let the one who has MY WORD speak it faithfully. For what has straw to do with grain?” declares the LORD. “Is not MY WORD like fire,” declares the LORD, “Like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces?

Daniel 9:1-2  In the first year of Darius son of Xerxes (a Mede by descent), who was made ruler over the Babylonian kingdom–  in the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, understood from the Scriptures, according to the WORD of the LORD given to Jeremiah the prophet, that the desolation of Jerusalem would last seventy years.
