BIBLICAL MOTHERHOOD

We Are Commanded By God To Honor Our Parents
Exodus 20:12  Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be prolonged in the land which the Lord your God gives you.

Ephesians 6:1-3  Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.  “Honor your father and mother” is the first commandment with a promise– “that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.”

We Are Expected To Care For Our Parents In Old Age
1Timothy 5:4  If any widow has children or grandchildren, let them  first learn to practice godliness in regard to their own family, and to make some return to their parents; for this is acceptable in the sight of God.

You Were Brought Into Existence Through Your Mother
Psalm 139:13-16  Thou didst form my inward parts; Thou didst weave me in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks to Thee, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Thy works, and my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from Thee, When I was made in secret, and skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth. Thine eyes have seen my unformed substance; in Thy book they were all written, The days that were ordained for me, When as yet there was not one of them.

Motherhood Is A Gift & A Blessing!
Deuteronomy 28:4  Blessed shall be the offspring of your body…

Psalm 127:3  Behold, children are a gift of the Lord; The fruit of the womb is a reward.

Motherhood Is A Metaphor Of God’s Love For Us!
Isaiah 66:13  As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you; And you shall be comforted in Jerusalem.

Eve Attributed Conception & Birth To God
Genesis 4:1  Adam had relations with his wife Eve, and she conceived and gave birth to Cain, and she said,   “I have gotten a manchild with the help of the Lord.”

Motherly Instinct Was Intended To Be As Strong As The Love Of God
Isaiah 49:15  Can a woman forget her nursing child, and have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, but I will not forget you!

Spiritual Motherhood Is Just As Important as Physical Motherhood
Psalm 113:9  He makes the barren woman abide in the house As a joyful mother of children.

Physical & Spiritual Mothers Should Instruct Children In Godliness
Proverbs 31:1  The words of King Lemuel, the oracle which his mother taught him.

Proverbs 31:26  She opens her mouth in wisdom, the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.

Parents Are To Instill Respect For Authority Into Their Children
Proverbs 13:24  He who spares his rod hates his son, But he who loves him disciplines him diligently.

Proverbs 22:15  Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child; The rod of discipline will remove it far from him.

Mothers Should Model Faith For Their Children To Emulate
2 Timothy 1:5  I am mindful of the sincere faith within you, which first dwelt in your grandmother Lois, and your mother Eunice, and I am sure that it is in you as well.

Mothers Should See To The Scriptural Education Of Their Children
2 Tim. 3:15  …from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus

Parents Are To Instill Discipline Into Their Children’s Lives
Proverbs 29:15  The rod and reproof give wisdom, but a child who gets his own way brings shame to his mother.
