Jesus, The Bread Of Life
Luke 22:19-20 Then he took bread, and after giving thanks he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” And in the same way he took the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.”
communion: the sharing or exchanging of intimate thoughts and feelings, especially when the exchange is on a mental or spiritual level.
Communion is a command
“Do this”
Communion is a remembrance
His sacrifice.
1 Corinthians 11:26 For every time you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.
Communion is a celebration
Isaiah 43:1 But now, this is what the Lord says—he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel: “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.”
Jesus knows and loves us perfectly; He would rather suffer and die for us than live without us
We come to the Lord’s table hungry, needy, and welcomed by the One who knows all the sin and neglect we bring to the table.
Jesus, The Bread Of Life – John 6:22-59
John 6:33 The true bread of God is the one who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world (NLT)
John 6:35 “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.”
Coming the wrong way
John 6:25-26 When they found him on the other side of the sea, they said to him, “Rabbi, when did you come here?” Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you are seeking me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate your fill of the loaves.”
Coming the right way
John 6:27 Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you.
Matthew 6:33 seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
Help me want the healer more than the healing
Help me want the savior more than the saving
Help me want the giver more than the giving
Oh help me want you Jesus more than anything
So, what should we do?
John 6:28 Then they said to him, “What must we do, to be doing the works of God?”
“This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.”
Our “work”
John 6:29 Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.”
A commitment
A life surrendered to God
The bread of life
John 6:32-33 …my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.
John 6:51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.
How can we receive life?
John 6:53-55 So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink.
John 6:56 Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him.
Our union with the Son enables us to share his life, just as he in turn lives because of the Father.
God lives in us, and we live in Him
John 14:16-17 will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to be with you forever— the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot accept, because it does not see him or know him. But you know him, because he resides with you and will be in you.
John 14: 23 Jesus replied, “If anyone loves me, he will obey my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and take up residence with him.
John 14: 26 …the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
