The Christmas Solution
Joseph Son of David…do not be afraid…
The Promise Is Tied To David The King
2nd Samuel 7:12-13 When thy days be fulfilled, thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish His kingdom. He shall build a house for My Name, and I will establish the throne of His kingdom forever!
Psalms 89:35-36 I have sworn by My Holiness that I will not lie unto David. His seed shall endure forever, and his throne as the sun before Me.
Psalms 132:11 The LORD has sworn in truth unto David; He will not turn from it; Of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne.
Joseph’s Davidic Line Was Under Divine Judgement
Jeremiah 22:27-30 land, land, land, hear the word of the LORD! This is what the LORD says: “Record this man (Jehoachin) as if childless, a man who will not prosper in his lifetime, for none of his offspring will prosper, none will sit on the throne of David or rule anymore in Judah.
The Virgin Birth Assured a Sinless Savior
Mary’s Davidic Line Assured Jesus’ Claim
Matthew 1:18 This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit.
To Be Righteous Is To Be Merciful
Matthew 1:19 …because Joseph her husband was a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly.
Mercy Extends Love & Fellowship To The Undeserving
Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and sinners came and ate with Him and His disciples. When the Pharisees saw this, they asked His disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice. For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” God did not want the Israelites’ rituals; He wanted their hearts. Jesus challenged the Pharisees to apply Hosea’s words to themselves. God wants a heart attitude that includes a right relationship with Him and with others, an attitude that reaches out to those in physical and spiritual need. Jesus did not come to call those who think they are already good enough (like these Pharisees), for the self-righteous do not recognize their sinfulness. But these sinners saw their need. Jesus, the Great Physician, healed people of physical illnesses, but He knew that all people are spiritually sick and in need of salvation.
Direction Comes When Mercy Is Seen
Matthew 1:20 But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.
Far As The Curse Is Found!
Matthew 1:21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus, because he will save His people from their sins.
Christmas Is God’s Solution To Human Need
Matthew 1:22-23 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: “The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel”–which means, “God with us.”
Fear Is Removed When God’s Word Is Obeyed
Matthew 1:24-25 When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. But he had no union with her until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.
Galatians 4:4-7 When the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, under the law, To redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. Because we are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. Wherefore thou art no more a slave, but a son!! And… an heir of God through Christ!
